Judith has had a lifelong love affair with yoga. It began when she was a young mother of three, a first-year middle school teacher and on a mental treadmill of “too many chores, too little time.”

Judith read about a yoga class for beginners starting up close to home. Once her feet touched the mat, there was no looking back. The following year she convinced her principal to offer yoga to a group of teenage girls dealing with their own unique problems. Judith also introduced her colleagues to yoga practice – and a yoga teacher was born.

From then until now Judith has continued to grow in her personal and professional practice. In the last few years she has completed her Yoga Alliance 200 RYT program through YogaFit, the largest yoga school in North America. Judith has studied flow vinyasa yoga at YogaFit workshops across North America focusing her training most recently on yoga for children, active seniors, stress reduction, chronic and debilitating health issues, grief and recovery. She has clocked over 3000 class room hours of yoga instruction.

In April, 2010 Judith completed training and was certified as an instructor for EnhanceFitness with Senior Services, Seattle, Washington.

Also in 2010 Judith became a certified Reiki practitioner taking First, Second and Third Degree Reiki training in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition. She finds this a relaxing and restoring companion to her beloved yoga and is profoundly grateful for its benefits to her and those who seek this gentle healing touch.

Prior to opening Rosewoods, Judith served as pastor in Congregational and Presbyterian churches from Canada to California. She received her B.A. and K-12 teaching credential from the University of Washington, and Master of Divinity and Doctor of Theology from San Francisco Theological Seminary (Presbyterian Church, USA). Following graduation from seminary, Judith served as a Chaplain at Stanford University Hospital, Palo Alto, California.

I am thankful every day for the boundless gifts of the yoga tradition.  I especially appreciate the precious time I spend practicing and teaching yoga's life giving breath and healing poses.  It gives me a sense of wholeness and balance (mind, body, spirit) I need to face the complexities of life.  My hope is that my students will also sense this harmony of self and will desire to extend their yoga experience into a way of life, all day, every day.  May this same wholeness we discover within ourselves move us to appreciate and embrace our oneness with others and the earth.  Peace inside...peace out.

Om Shanti,

Judith

When I think of my yoga classes with Judith, the first word that floats into my mind is “balance,” followed quickly by peacefulness, strength, and self-confidence. Judith takes our class on an hour long journey, always guiding with gentle words of encouragement and praise. While on those journeys I have reclaimed my self-esteem, grown stronger, and learned how to evoke calmness during moments of stress.

I feel my classes with Judith are a gift and I am ever grateful: to my beautiful daughter for introducing me to Judith, to my husband for encouraging my efforts, and of course, to Judith.

(Another benefit – I’m wearing short sleeves again! Next year – tank tops!!)
