FAQ

What is the meaning of “Flow yoga is for every body?”

Flow yoga is an active style of yoga that offers modification of the poses for greater safety and gives many options so that everybody can feel uniquely and successfully challenged. Props help students find their own perfect pose, listening to their bodies, allowing the body to be the guide, and letting go of competition, judgment, and expectations. “No pain is gain.”

Will yoga help me lose weight?

Yes, maybe… Yoga offers the inner harmony and body awareness required to achieve a healthier approach to eating and movement. It is a holistic doorway to exploring the underlying causes of excess fat, which are often a complex mix of physical, emotional, and spiritual issues.

Most people associate yoga with skinny, ultra-flexible yogis. This is unfortunate because people of girth need yoga as much as anyone and Flow is for every body.

Health of body and mind comes quickly with Flow yoga. It is gentle, non-competitive, deeply satisfying and often times just what the doctor ordered. New students are delightfully surprised at what they can do, how they look, and even more, how fabulous they feel.

The focus becomes wellness and deep appreciation for the transformation in the whole self. Food becomes less important; love for body, more.

The same harmony of self that is discovered in the studio is carried out into daily life transforming relationships with others, the earth and all sentient beings.

Flow yoga lets you tune in, chill out, shape up – all at the same time.

Flow yoga is of the vinyasa style which means in Sanskrit “to place in a special way.” This refers to the poses (asanas) which are beautifully linked one to another for strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance. Flow yoga adds life-giving breath work (pranayama) to the connected movement of the poses for a calming, cleansing, and renewing experience.

In Flow yoga every part of the body is worked equally to improve fitness and to teach harmony of mind, body, and spirit so joy and relaxation can be attained.

Yoga - with its Indian roots and thousands of years of history - has blossomed into a popular practice that people are discovering is more than mere exercise.  It offers the opportunity, if we let it, to tap into our deeper selves in surprising and transforming ways.  Its focus on health and wholeness makes it a relevant practive for the modern busy lives we lead.

Today there are many schools of yoga sharing common qualities and the same poses; however they vary in focus and practice. Flow yoga is one of the more recent yoga practices firmly grounded in the ancient hatha yoga tradition. Flow yoga is quickly becoming the most popular style of yoga in the on-going evaluation of yoga in America. This is understandable because Flow yoga embraces and welcomes every body regardless of age, ability or health; and ultimately leads to transformation of the whole self.

"I came to yoga seeking a way to breathe more deeply, manage asthma, and strengthen my 60s body. Thank you, Judith, for helping move me in that direction, and more, with a personalized, yet affordable, practice at your studio. I value your constant coaching/reminders that have helped push my body "a little bit further," safely, ever in new, unexpected ways. Yes, I may be "aging", but with a stronger and healthier core than I ever could have hoped for at this age, my life is, truly, richer. Thank you Judith for making this personalized practice so accessible."
